Garden of the gods is a remarkable natural landmark home to towering red rocks, and a beautiful road that drives through the heart of the park.

Garden of the gods trails open. Camel rock and devil's smokestack are among the named formations. It is much more crowded in summer months but the fall and winter months are also enjoyable if dressed appropriately. There is limited parking within the garden of the gods park.

The trail begins on the southern edge of the parking area. Horseback rides on designated trails can be scheduled with academy riding stables. There are 15 miles of trail including 1.5 miles of paved trail off the main parking lot on the north side of the park.

The city founders did a fantastic job reserving open spaces, and locals have carved a hiker’s (or runner’s, or walker’s, or biker’s) paradise into the landscape. The easiest spot to park in garden of the gods is at the main parking area on the northern end of the park. The sediment rock in this area is over 4 miles deep and the fractured bedrock has created some interesting rock formations that represent various objects.

Garden of the gods hikes. Perkins central garden trail, this is an easy, 1 1/2 mile roundtrip path, with less than a 30 foot rise. Garden of the gods (in illinois, not colorado) is an area of beautiful and unusual sandstone rock outcrops and formations.

From the south garden parking lot there are approximately 5 miles of trails for mountain biking and hiking. Most trails on the east side are open to mountain biking and horseback riding. The observation trail features unique sandstone rock formations and panoramic views of the surrounding garden of the god wilderness.

In the recreation area you can hike, camp, nature watch or picnic. Photograph is of the east face with early morning light. However, drones cannot be operated in the garden of the gods park without proper permits and insurance.
